To my readers in the Northern Hemisphere (which I think is 100% of you, but correct me if I’m wrong!)—happy spring! 🌷
Over the last two weeks, I’ve been writing a deeply personal essay. After a few drafts and lots of editing, I asked four others for their feedback. The prevailing opinion is that while it’s good and I could share the piece now, the story would be stronger if it had more details. Oof. I agree with them, but the longer I work on revisions, the less gutsy I feel! So I’m taking a little break from the emotionally draining work and trusting I’ll know when it’s right to return to (and eventually share) the essay.
In the meantime, here are photos from the first week of spring along with several haiku I wrote today. I woke up needing to remind myself of something beautiful, and these mini poems helped.
Maybe you’re in a bit of a funk and need some refreshing, too. If so, I hope this quick post can offer a little bit of air. 🕊️
Feeling bold? Write your own haiku and share it in the comments! I’d be honored to read what you create.
Talk soon!

POLLEN AT WORK
*
Springtime fairy’s rules:
Sprinkle yellow, then dust hands
Making sidewalk art
WATERCOLOR
*
A faded palette,
brushed with former grief. Somehow—
colors bleed on through.
STEMMED
*
that persistent plant,
stalling, standing, stupefying—
does it hurt to grow?
UNDER CONSTRUCTION
*
daily, the bees drill!
piercing wood with zeal, they
polka-dot our home
A PRETTY BUNCH
*
We’re inflorescent—
an arrangement all aglow,
picked for each other.
Beautiful photos, and I really liked the 'Pollen at work' haiku.
Loved these! Haiku is one of my favourite poetry forms. I hope you write more of these. Looking forward to your essay, too.
