Such a fabulous post, Erika - wow!

In the last few months I've been looking at mind mapping - my interest had been piqued by a YouTube video by Sheng Huang.

I've found the idea of it rather daunting, though - for someone who lives her life in a very linear fashion I've found it hard to map anything that isn't in list format!

I'm looking forward to exploring the resources you've so kindly linked to - I shall gird my loins and have a go.

(I'll report back!) 😊

Thanks for taking the time to read! Interestingly, I’ve always been a list gal myself. So I’m right there with you! Bullet points, checkboxes, to-dos, and numbers have been my BFFs. 😂

And to be candid—I did erase parts of my mind map to swap it for “better” handwriting. But as a whole, it was therapeutic!

Since you’re an artist, I’d be curious if you could look at it more like “drawing” and designing your ideas/thoughts on paper? ✏️ Let me know how it goes for you! If it doesn’t feel like the right method, that’s 100% okay. Yay for trying something new!

Oooh, I'm going to make a mind map right now! Question: what are the numbers 1-12 on your mind map for?

Oh I’m excited for you to create one! Feel free to report back if you find something you’d like to share. I wish you could attach photos to Substack comments!

And great question about the numbers—those will correlate with the 12 links I shared. Those were resources that popped into my head while creating. 😊

This makes me happy to hear! Raindrop.io is the best. You won’t believe how many open browser tabs I used to have. 😅

Erika, I may have a solution for this! I use an app called CleanShot X. You can take a screenshot, save it to the Cloud, and share it as a link. It also has cool markup tools. See? https://share.cleanshot.com/1Zlx45Ks.

You can get it on its own, but I use it through an app aggregator called Setapp which bundles a whole bunch of useful apps together under one subscription. 10/10 recommend.

What a great idea, Katie! Funny, I used this all the time at my previous job but never thought about it in daily life. I should have another Mind Your Own Map post coming in the next week. Would love to see if you create one! 🗺️

Hi Erika! The mind map is such a cool idea. The part about God’s story stood out to me! I’m also excited to read Vulnerable Communion someday! Thanks for the recommendation.

I saw a comment from you on a past Substack Writers Office Hours and have since began reading your work. It’s engaging and meaningful! I’m excited to tag along on your writing journey!

Elizabeth—hi! 👋🏼 Thanks for letting me know how you stumbled across Nōto. I love that! I appreciate your kind words, too.

The Biggest Story has marvelous illustrations. I’ve thought about purchasing posters with art from the book. Vulnerable Communion is a hefty read, and full of deep/challenging insights. If you ever want to discuss it more, let me know!

Love this Erika! I've never read about Mind Maps in this way (except in the tech world, which has a very different purpose) - I really want to give this a try though! I love the flexibility and wonder it brings up as we discover parts of ourselves that we oftentimes don't even have words for until we do an exercise like this. I also loved the resources you included at the very end! Definitely checking out several. Your writing is so exquisite time and time again.
