Truth be told, I am an illustration snob (with zero justification other than my own esoteric taste), but--I love your mothers illustrations! They are so perfect, whimsical, and lovely!
One of my favorite artists is also a good friend: Sean Rubin. His first book, Bolivar, is a dearly loved family favorite. He also wrote and illustrated This Very Tree, about 9/11. I have another bias to confess: I'm on the cover of his latest book, The Iguanodon's Horn, but covertly. I posed in period costume for his illustration of Mary Ann Mantell, arguably the mother of paleontology. :)
Hey Stephanie! I’m so happy you love her work. And thank you for sharing about Sean Rubin. I looked at his portfolio (including the cover you mentioned!) and really enjoy his style. His use of shadows and lines/textures really stands out to me. I’ve never heard of Mary Ann Mantell—now you have me curious! 🔍
What a beautiful gift this post is for me😭💗 I love you so much, Erichan🥰
I’m happy to know that. Love you too! 😘
You’re an amazing artist, ma’am!

Hi Erika, I LOVE your beautiful hummingbird limerick ❤️ and your mum's illustrations are just wonderful too 💕
Aww, thank you, Eva! I like creating “limericks for levity” as I call them. They’re a form of therapy for me, really. 🤗
This is such a wonderful way to honor her. She sounds so inspiring!
She is, Heidi. Truly! 🤩
Wow, Erika! Your mom’s art is fantastic. How have you not shared her with us sooner? I am literally in awe.
I know, right?! Hoping she’ll find an agent to represent her work soon—she’s so deserving! 👏🏼
I loved this so much! I listened to it and hearing it in your voice while looking at all her beautiful art is amazing. Thank you for sharing this!
Lauren - you’re so welcome! And thanks for letting me know you listened to it! I haven’t received much feedback about the voiceovers. 😄
Beautiful story, beautiful art!
Thanks for taking the time to read, Rebecca! 😊
