Another lovely post - thanks, Erika!

I love that 'left-handed' is at the top left-hand side of your mindmap! πŸ™Œ

I really loved 'Peter and the Wolf' as a child - I still do now, in fact. And of course, also side B of that vinyl record I grew up with - Britten's 'A young person's guide to the orchestra'. Wonderful! My favourite animal in P&TW was the duck, too - I swear those creatures are my spirit animal. They can walk, swim AND fly - and their default facial expression is a smile. 😁😁😁

Oh, that was a keen observation! Fellow lefties unite. 🀩

I don't know too many folks who are familiar with Peter and the Wolf! πŸ¦† I think it gets confused for that Aesop fable, The Boy Who Cried Wolf??

So glad you reminded me of Britten's piece. Last fall, I started volunteering at our orchestra and couldn't believe I got to sit there and listen to incredible music like that for free. It'd be fun to attend a show they have for children one of these days. I'm sure there's a particular energy there that you wouldn't encounter otherwise!

Oh wow, Erika - I love the sound of your getting to spend time with the orchestra!

When I was little my parents bought tickets for a season of music performances for children, and on Saturdays we would take the train to London for another concert. We watched performances of both the works I mentioned, plus 'Tubby the Tuba' (narrated by someone off the telly!), and 'Danse Macabre' by Saint-Saëns, and gosh, I can't remember all of the others - but they were all really engaging concerts. I'd completely forgotten about them - thank you so much for reminding me of such a special thing. 😊

Oh my goodness! This post brought back so much sweet memories❀️

You girls were so creative about reenacting all those outings! I enjoyed your post very much. Nowadays, I’m discovering that I’m able to learn things by listening to podcasts and audio books (the Bible included)! I thought I was strictly a visual learner.

Thank you! ❀️ You sat through so many of our home-performances and reenactments, even paying us a few cents for the price of admission. I wonder if you remember that. πŸ˜‚

And what a fun discovery re: the podcasts/audiobooks!

Downloading "The Country of the Blind" episode right now so I can listen to it on my plane ride home. Thank you for sharing and thank you for putting together another heartfelt, wide-eyed, honest piece of writing.

Oh, by the way, do you create your mind maps on paper first and then convert them to a digital image or do you create them digitally from the start? I'd be curious what program you use if you do create them digitally.

I’m so sorry I missed this months back! Did you end up listening to the podcast episode? I still need to get the book!

Also, I make these using Procreate on my iPad. It’s the same app my mom uses for her digital work!

This post made my mind spark all over the place! Remembering performances as a kid...and also made me think..."wow...as an adult there really isn't ever a time I am called to line up in a formation." That happened all the time when I was younger.

I noticed "left-handed" was on your mind map. Are you a lefty? I am!
